Gym Roof and Temporary Closure Update

We want to provide you with an update regarding the gym roof and an incident that has impacted gym access.

While roofing work was underway on Friday, an unexpected heavy rainstorm occurred, allowing water to enter the gym and an adjacent hallway. In response, a remediation team has been on-site with dryers and dehumidifiers, which will continue operating through April 29.

Originally, we planned to keep half of the gym open during the roofing project. However, due to the water intrusion, the entire gym must remain closed at this time. We aim to reopen half of the gym by the afternoon of April 29, with full reopening expected by May 1.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue safely and efficiently.

As we move forward with our roof project, we would like to inform you about an important update regarding the entrance relocation. For everyone's safety, while work is being done on the Lobby roof, we will be temporarily relocating the building's entrance on Tuesday, April 8th (weather permitting).

HOW THIS WILL AFFECT YOU!

  • Temporary Entrance: The main entrance will be moved to the north circle.
  • Building Access: All members and guests will enter the building through these doors, and a temporary Customer Service desk will be set up in this area.
  • Handicapped Parking: Five handicapped parking spots will be available in the north circle, designated for ADA members only.
  • No Drop-Off/Pick-Up: Please note that drop-off and pick-up in the north circle will not be allowed. All members, guests, and program participants will need to park and walk to the temporary entrance. There will be no program pick-up or drop-off in this area.
  • Café Voca: Café Voca will be closed on April 8th until the roof work in that section is completed.
  • Class Relocations: Classes held in the conference room will be moved. You will receive an email from the department regarding these changes.
  • Elevator: The elevator will be open next week, but there will be a period when it will be temporarily closed for roofing work. We will notify you of the specific days when the elevator will be unavailable. We are making every effort to minimize the length of the closure.

    The roof work will be completed in three phases to minimize disruptions in this key area. We will keep you updated on any further changes through email, app notifications, and on-site signage. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Thank you for your patience. We’re excited to announce that, thanks to the recent updates and continued roof repairs, our SPA area is now fully open and ready for you to enjoy again! Your patience and support during this process have been greatly appreciated, and we’re thrilled to welcome you back to a refreshed and relaxing space.

-Upcoming Roofing projects (weather dependant)

  • Fitness Center/Studio D/Racquetball & Gymnasium roofs are being vacuumed. These areas may be noisy at times as they remove the debris from the roofs in anticipation of reroofing them in April.
  • Administrative Hallway roofing will take place in the next few weeks.
  • Lobby Area roofing work will begin mid-April. During this time, we will temporarily relocate the Y’s entrance to the northern circle drive. We will provide more details about these changes and how they may affect you when we have specific dates.

We would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your patience as we continue with our roofing project. We understand that this may cause some temporary disruptions, and we greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve the facility.

Please note that, as the project is weather-dependent, the timeframes may change. We will do our best to keep you updated on any adjustments.

Break Week Projects (March 24–28):

-Men’s Locker Room Showers Closed: The men’s locker room showers will be closed for tile work. During this time, you are welcome to use the family locker room showers. For the comfort and safety of all our members, especially children, we kindly ask that you remain fully clothed in common areas.

-ABC Studio: The ABC Studio will be closed due to the ongoing roof project.

 

Roofing Project Update:

-Pool Roof: Is nearly complete, with just a few finishing touches left.

-Spa - We’re hopeful to reopen the spa area by mid-week next week. Please continue to wear shoes in this area and we complete minor decorative upgrades.

 
Upcoming Roof Work:

- March 24–29 - ABC Studio roofing take place.

We wanted to provide you with an update on the ongoing roofing project and thank you for your continued patience as we work to complete it.

During the course of the project, we encountered an issue with the section of the roof above the pool walkway. In order to address this, we had to make adjustments to the drains and add additional roof insulation, which has caused some delays. Additionally, weather conditions have played a role in extending the timeline. To work on this section, we also needed to disconnect the HVAC unit, and we are working diligently to get it up and running again as soon as possible, which will restore heating to the locker room and spa area!

Here are a few FAQs about the roof project:

The current roof is the original one and has been patched over the years. We are doing a full tear-off and replacement.

We’ve been working for the past 3 ½ years to secure governmental funding for this project, and we are happy to report that we finally received approval. However, the funding does not cover the entire cost, so we are still raising additional funds to complete the work.

The project had to begin as soon as possible given the condition of the roof and the grant allowed for us to do this. Last year, local roofers were able to continue working through December and January due to minimal days below 32 degrees, and we had hoped for similar conditions when our project began. However, this year’s weather has been more challenging, so it is taking longer than expected.

We greatly value our members and guests, and we assure you we are doing everything we can to reopen the hallways and spa as soon as possible. We hope with the nicer weather coming next week we will make some progress and we truly appreciate your patience during this time.

Thank you all for your continued patience as we work through our roof project.

We prioritized the pool roof, and we've been working hard to ensure minimal disruption to our members and guests while keeping our programs and areas open.

Half of the pool roof has been completed. We anticipate finishing the remaining half next week (weather permitting). Once the pool roof is complete, the heaters and fans can be reinstalled, and the pool and locker rooms will be fully restored, as we will have a brand-new roof. We aim to have everything with the pool finished before the start of the new year!

Throughout this process, we’ll continue to manage any condensation, temperature fluctuations, and debris resulting from the ongoing project. Please stay updated by checking signage, our app, and our website for any changes or new information.

The roof replacement project is underway as you can tell by the large machinery at the Y!

In the next 3 weeks, we will be replacing the roof over the Pool, Youth Room, Office Hallway, Lobby, and ABC Studio.

 At this time we do not anticipate class cancellations or facility closures, plans may adjust as construction progresses.

 

What you need to know

  • There may be occasional temperature fluctuations in certain areas. In the lower level and locker rooms we will have temporary heating installed to keep these areas comfortable.
  • Due to the temporary heating issue the spa will be closed while we work on that section of the roof. 
  • There may be some noise and dust may arise due to construction and vibrations, but please rest assured that our team is committed to maintaining a clean and well-maintained environment.
  • The circle drive on the north side of our building will remain closed.
  • Y-time parents will park in the lot and walk inside for pick-up.
  • The playground will be closed.

We’re excited to announce that our roofing project is set to begin next week! Thanks to a Community Project Funding Grant from HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development), a portion of the project costs will be covered, and we are especially grateful to Congressman Schneider for his assistance during the application process.

Phase 1 of the project, which includes the Pool, Offices, Lobby, and ABC Studio, is scheduled to start next week and is expected to be completed by December 26, weather permitting. The project will proceed in phases, and while we do not currently anticipate significant class cancellations or facility closures, plans may adjust as construction progresses.

What does this mean for you?

  • There may be some noise, especially during the first few days (11/25-11/27).
  • Some dust may arise due to construction and vibrations, but please rest assured that our team is committed to maintaining a clean and well-maintained environment throughout the project.
  • The circle drive on the north side of our building will be closed during construction for machinery and equipment.
  • Y-time pickup will require parents to park in the lot and walk inside.
  • The playground will be closed.
  • During construction, there may be occasional temperature fluctuations in certain areas. We are committed to minimizing any discomfort and ensuring a comfortable environment throughout the project.
