Lifeguard & Swim Instructor

Lifeguard & Swim Instructor

Job Type: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you looking to earn income while making a difference in children’s lives and teaching them to swim? Do you enjoy working with people and youth? Jump right in and start saving lives today!

Your help is needed in maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Also by, creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, we need interested applicants to provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Hours/shifts available from 5:00am-10:00pm on weekdays as well as 6:00am-5:00pm on weekends.

Pay rates range up to $16/hour.

Swim Experience preferred. Lifeguard training is provided. 

Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred

Personal Trainer

Personal Trainer

Job Type: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides individual, small group and/or class instruction in fitness program development, strength, cardiovascular training and wellness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs that will meet the unique needs and wants of each member.
  2. Plans and instructs individuals, small groups or classes with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  3. Contacts members on a regular basis to follow-up on progression of their fitness program.
  4. Keeps accurate records of members’ progress.
  5. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long term participation.
  6. Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents, incidents, and equipment problems.
  7. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Maintains current certifications.
  8. Any additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills required.
  2. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. Current certification from a NCAA Nationally Accredited program for Personal training.
  4. Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours a week, including nights and weekends.

Health & Wellness Floor Staff

Health & Wellness Floor Staff

Job Type: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Assoc. Wellness Director the Health and Wellness Floor Staff has the responsibility to enhance customer service by providing member assistance in the Fitness Center and Free Weight/Track area while keeping facilities neat and running smoothly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Actively approach members in the Fitness Center and Free Weight/Track area to help build relationships.
  2. Clean Fitness Center and Free Weight/Track area equipment on a daily basis.
  3. Regularly check fitness center and weight room for damaged equipment; report all needed repairs to Assoc. Wellness Director.
  4. Conduct individual member orientations to provide members with general knowledge on how to use cardio equipment and strength equipment machines in the Fitness Center and Free Weight/Track area.
  5. Assist members with equipment usage and be available and visible in the fitness center to answer basic fitness questions.
  6. Set the example for members in the areas of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  7. Completes in a timely manner all requests from supervisor(s) and aids in the achievement of department and center goals and objectives.
  8. Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.
  9. Help with special events.
  10. Attend meetings as directed by the Sr. Director of Wellness
  11. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  3. Knowledge of fitness equipment and general exercise training concepts.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal skills and display a high level of customer service.

Group Exercise Instructor

Group Exercise Instructor

Job Type: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for instructing safe and effective group exercise and/or related classes for a wide range of participants and members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans and instructs group exercise and/or related classes, following industry standards and guidelines.
  2. Arrives and sets up 7-10 minutes before class and cleans up after classes and protects health, safety, and welfare of participants by keeping fitness area safe.
  3. Reports any equipment problems.
  4. Maintains current certifications, and provides updates to certifications to the Wellness Director and/or Assoc. Wellness Director.
  5. Represents the NSYMCA in a positive manner. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs and follows YMCA policies and procedures.
  6. Maintains a well-groomed appearance and adheres to professional dress attire.
  7. Attends all required meetings and training.
  8. May perform fitness testing and orientations.
  9. Secures a substitute if unable to attend scheduled shift.
  10. Responsible for judging appropriate levels for all participants.
  11. Develops rapport with members and responds to member questions related to fitness.
  12. Coordinates the use of facilities for program activities and events.
  13. Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to and reports accidents and incidents.
  14. Any additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must have a current certification from an NCAA National Accredited Program for Group Exercise. Obtain state-approved First Aid and CPR Certifications as well as AED. Must have a basic knowledge of fitness and equivalent work/education experience. Must have a minimum of 10 hours of practical experience as a Group Exercise Instructor. Ability to lead a group exercise class, ability to motivate and educate members with an enthusiastic attitude.

The North Suburban YMCA seeks a responsible, motivated, energetic assistant that is 21 years of age or older with a clean driving record to be an After-school Program teacher. This individual must enjoy working with school-aged children and work well in a team setting with other educators. Prior experience working with children a must. Hours of employment are Monday-Friday 2:00-6:30 pm flexibility is a plus.

Job Type: Part-time

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y-time staff maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises the children, classroom, and all program activities.
  2. Assists all children with any homework they have.
  3. Follows all procedures and standards as established by the Y; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
  4. Nurtures children through purposeful programming.
  5. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth.
  6. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  7. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  8. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; conducts parent/caregiver conferences; connects families to the Y.
  9. Attends and participates in staff meetings, and staff training as assigned.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
  11. Must be available to teach the beginning week and ending week of each session. No vacations/days off will be allowed during those time periods.

Qualifications:

  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established the Y.
  2. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required.
  3. Child Abuse Prevention training is required within 30 days of hire.
  4. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  6. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
