Water should be a place for fun, confidence, and lifelong memories.
But for too many families, it can also be a place of uncertainty.
At the North Suburban YMCA, we believe swimming is not a luxury. It is a life skill.
Every year, thousands of children and adults build confidence in the water through YMCA swim lessons. For many families, financial assistance makes those lessons possible, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn skills that could one day save a life.
Last year alone, 285 children and 33 adults received financial assistance for swim lessons, opening the door to greater confidence and water safety.
That impact reaches far beyond the pool.
Each year, the YMCA trains more than 140 community lifeguards—young leaders who are prepared to respond when every second counts. We also provide opportunities for swimmers of all abilities to discover confidence, friendship, and achievement through our Special Olympics Swim Team.
When children learn to swim, families gain peace of mind.
When lifeguards are trained, our community becomes safer.
When every person has the opportunity to participate, everyone benefits.
Because swimming is not simply another program.
It is a life skill that saves lives.
