Brian Kabat

My love for photography stems from my love for the arts in general. A lifelong performing musician, and school music teacher since 1988, my life has been greatly influenced by the arts since I was a young boy. I first started to take photographs in the early 2000s when I began taking frequent walks outdoors. I found nature to be peaceful and inspiring. Before long, I started bringing a camera with me to try to capture my experiences in order to remember them, as well as to share them with others. I found myself becoming very serious about my newfound passion. So, I started to include some of my photos on cards that I would make for friends and relatives for various occasions. They were well received, and many people encouraged me to start selling them. As I pondered this I felt that I should try to share my photographs so others could feel a bit of the inspiration I feel from these magnificent places. I also started to think about ways that I could try to do something with my photographs to HELP others. I immediately thought of my niece and nephew, who are teenage twins living with autism.

My brother-in-law and his wife have tried many alternative types of therapies and treatments, and the twins have grown by leaps and bounds. But none of these approaches are covered by insurance because they are considered "experimental."

So, I take a portion of the money I earn from my photography sales to try to help them in some small way to pay for these alternative therapies and treatments.

My love of photography has continued to grow and branch out into other areas, such as cityscapes, still lives, events, and portraiture. I believe that a good photograph--whatever the subject may be--helps to capture the mood of a place or event so that others can experience that emotional connection--just like a good piece of music does. Whenever I capture a moment, for instance, that is met with an excited expression on the face of the viewer, I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to do. I know that that person now has something that will forever bring back memories of their own inspiration whenever they look at that photo.

That brings ME great joy!
