I get a feeling of community at the Y-- from the ‘good morning, Sal!’ when I walk in the door, to the ‘have a great day’ when I leave. Y members smile at each other. Banter when engaged. And are always willing to step aside or help when asked. The Y makes me feel like I belong, that there’s a place for me, and that I’m special. What other community facility caters to the young, the old, the fit, the athlete, the want-to-be athlete, the injured, or the disabled? To me, the Y is not my Y, not your Y, but our Y.
