Youth Sports [+/-]
YMCA youth sports programs fill kids' discretionary hours with positive activities and caring adult attention.
Youth Leagues (Boys and Girls, Kindergarten through 6th grade )
A mainstay of YMCA offerings for young people—emphasizes teamwork and cooperation over winning at any cost; developing good values over developing the next superstar.

Basketball Training Academy
This weekly academy focuses on strengthening basic basketball skills. The topics include:
ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense, transition play and positions.
*Grades Kindergarten-3rd
*Grades 3rd-8th
Volleyball Academy—Boys and girls; 5th-8th Grade
Focus is on key volleyball skills including serving, setting and spiking.
Volleyball Club—Girls; 5th-8th Grade
Practice twice a week in the evening. Compete in 1-2 tournaments a month.
Cost is $700/player, which includes uniform and tournament fees.

After School Sports Camp (Grades K-5th)
A tailored version of our ever popular SportsKids Day Camp, this class focuses on a variety
of sports, including baseball, soccer, basketball, hockey and flag football. We also play a
variety of fun playground games, including Man From Mars, PacMan, kickball and dodgeball.
Also take advantage of the X-Zone - participants will get to play Sportwall, Makoto, DDR,
Exerbikes and Nintendo Wii.
*Monday and/or Friday from 4:00-5:30pm.
Little Athletes Sports Class Ages 3-Kindergarten
Introduce your child to the world of sports including baseball, basketball and soccer through a variety of games designed for the younger athlete with FUN as the primary objective.
*Tuesday 10:00-11:00am or Tuesday 1:30-2:30 pm
Wednesday 10:15-11:15am OR Wednesday 1:30-2:30pm
3 on 3 Basketball Tournament (Boys and girls; 1st-8th grade, Highschool & Adult)
2011 Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 19th.
No more than 4 players per team.
Individual trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams in each age group.
T-Shirt is included in the registration fee.
Baseball Clinic (Boys and girls; Kindergarten-8th grade)
Clinic will meet on Saturday March 21st. K-2nd grade will meet from 12:30-2:00pm and 3rd-8th grade will meet from 2:30-5:00pm. Focus will be on pitching, catching, throwing, batting, and fielding. T-shirt included in registration fee.
Cheerleading—Boys and girls; K-8th Grade
Classes will teach the skills needed to compete for school squads and Competitive Team. Classes will get the opportunity to performs for our youth league games.
K-2nd Grade: Monday 5:00-6:00pm
3rd-5th Grade: Monday 6:00-7:00pm
6th-8th Grade: Monday 7:00-8:00pm
6th-8th Grade Advanced: Monday 8:00-9:00pm
Cheerleading Competitive Team—Boys and girls; 3rd-8th Grade
This program will provide the skills needed to make the High School squad.
Want to try out for the team? Register for one of the Clinics to learn the routine and then come to the Tryout and show us what you can do.
Clinic: Friday, 4/30, 5-7pm with Tryouts: Sunday, 5/2, 12-1:30pm or
Clinic: Tuesday, 6/22, 5-7pm with Tryouts: Thursday, 6/24, 5-7pm

Baton—Boys and girls; K-12th Grade
Learn the fundamentals of baton, including how to hold, twirl and throw the baton. Some classes will be able to perform during our house league games.
5-8 years old: Saturday 9:00-9:45am
9-12 years old: Saturday 9:45-10:30am
13 & Up: Saturday 11:00-11:45am

Youth Progressive Gymnastics
Our Youth Progressive Gymnastics Program is a progressive developmental program. Personal improvement, increased selfconfidence, and fun are our goals. The YMCA program is a progressive program, which allows the students to progress at their own rate and work on their individual needs. The Pre-Team and
Competitive Team gymnasts work on compulsory routines. The North Suburban YMCA Gymnastics Team travels and competes in the YMCA

Our martial arts classes are taught by master instructors, including world renown Karate athletes from Fonseca Martial Arts.
Tae Kwon Do Beginning (Ages 7-13)
Instructions offered in the art of hand
and foot fighting in a health system that focusses on physical fitness, mental discipline, self-confidence and self-defense.
Tae Kwon Do (Ages 14 & up)
The adult version of the art of hand and foot fighting in a health system that focusses on physical fitness, mental discipline, self confidence and self-defense.
Jiu Jitsu (Self-Defense) Beginner (Ages 7-13)
The Japanese art of self-defense includes blocks, break falls, sweeps, throws, releases from holds, and “anything that works to keep you safe.”
Jiu Jitsu (Self-Defense) (Ages 14 & up)
The adult version of the Japanese art of
self-defense includes blocks, break falls, sweeps, throws, releases from holds, and “anything that works to keep you safe.”
Little Dragons Karate (Ages 3-6)
This program enhances positive development in a fun and motivating environment. Your child builds balance, coordination, self-control and listening skills while learning age-appropriate karate basics like blocking, kicking and simple strikes.
Youth/Adult Karate (Ages 7 & Up)
Students learn the blocks, strikes and techniques necessary to advance through the ranks of the traditional Japanese art of karate. In addition to developing selfconfidence,
physical fitness, focus, selfdefense and safety skills, this class introduces students to traditional Japanese language and culture, while building respect for themselves and others.
Wing Chun (Ages 14 & Up)
Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art that specializes in close-range combat. This class is taught be self-defense specialist Dominick Izzo of Izzo Training Systems.
