YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign

Activate America

About the Campaign

  • All the money raised in this campaign supports the YMCA’s policy that "no one is turned away due to inability to pay."
  • Membership dues are not sufficient to support the additional costs of our programs to reach out in the community and help those less fortunate.
  • There are many in our community who need assistance.
  • Last year, the need exceeded $145,000 and is expected to grow to over $200,000 this year.
  • Typical YMCAs derive 10% to 15% of their income from donations. Much of this comes from individuals.
  • Our goal for this year’s campaign is $200,000.
  • Volunteers are asking for a tax-deductible donation from every member.

What it Achieves

  • Last year, $145,000 in help was provided as scholarships for memberships and programs to nearly 618 children, families, and seniors in our YMCA last year.
  • Many of the kids who participated in our Summer Day Camp were given assistance for those camp fees.
  • Over 170 kids who participated in our youth sports program, swim lessons, dance classes, and visual art program received much needed assistance on the fees for those classes.
  • The NSYMCA hosted an English as a Second Language (ESL) program sponsored by Oakton Community College and provided childcare during these classes.
  • It provided safe, fun, and affordable childcare for Kindergarten students from District 28, 30, and 31.
  • It hosted the Off-Campus High School program
  • It builds character traits of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring into every program.
