Weic Fischer

The sudden passing of Eric Fischer due to Covid-19 has left a hole in the lives of those who loved him, and the entire community as well. Eric’s larger-than-life personality was one that focused on giving back and he was known for going out of his way for others.  Eric was the kind of man who’d pay the tab for a veteran, senior, or youth in need at a local restaurant or stick up for someone being bullied. He was the kind of man that the phrase “he’d give you the shirt off his back,” was written about.

The NSYMCA shares his passion for helping the community. The Y believes its programs and services should be available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. The NSYMCA averages over $525,000 in financial aid scholarships to more than 2,500 people each year.  The Y was blessed to have someone like that Eric attended and supported many NSYMCA fundraisers. The NSYMCA is so proud to count Eric and his family and friends among our supporters.

The Eric Fischer memorial fund will provide a legacy of giving back to the community.  Dollars raised will allow more people in need to participate in life-changing and enriching programs at the NSYMCA. The fund will ensure our communities can build strong families and the health of each individual’s spirit, mind, and body in an inclusive, welcoming environment.

The sudden passing of Eric Fischer has left a hole in not only the lives of those who loved him, but the community as well. Eric’s larger-than-life personality was one that focused on giving back. To honor his life and legacy the family and friends of Eric want to continue the giving spirit and create the NSYMCA’s Eric Fischer Memorial Fund. This fund will help the North Suburban YMCA supply financial aid to families, seniors, and children in the 15 communities we serve – including Wheeling

Eric Fischer Memorial Ride

Starting in 2021, the NSYMCA celebrated Eric’s life by holding the Eric Fischer Memorial Ride. This gathered 100s of local friends and bikers to celebrate Eric’s life and impact.

Bikers started at Willow Creek Church and ended their memorial ride at the Y where the celebration continued with a tribute to Eric and his life with food, music, and a memorial remembrance.
